The Age of Men

Wednesday, January 25, 2012

So the mens winter collections have battled the catwalk for the limelight and here are some of my personal favorite contenders. Some stand out collections this season for me include; Givenchy, Mugler, Alexander McQueen and Burberry. Two garments that have made their debut this season are the mens skirt/dress and the cape. Wether it be inspired by femininity, darkness or warriors everyone from Mugler to Jean Paul Gaultier and Dior are adapting the design to the male ensemble.

Burberry

Givenchy

John Galliano

Mugler

Prada

Jean Paul Gaultier

The above images are my personal favorite outfits and collections from this season. I love how designers are combining usually feminine garments such as the skirt but blending it with a boyish look such as Givenchy

Dior

Issey Miyake

Capes this next winter are going to be a big thing in the mens fashion scene. Wether your a Jack the Ripper or a Roman warrior, a cape will be the new Jacket.

Givenchy

Jean Paul Gaultier

Mugler

Rick Owens

The skirt or man-dress, not entirely accepted by society unless you're a Scot in a kilt, but definitely a garment that will be changing the face of menswear with an almost 'masculine-ist' come back.

Here are two pictures, one where im wearing a kilt at fashion week and one where im wearing a cape ...

Francesca Marotta
Presentation 18 . 09 . 11

We were invited to the Francesca Marotta presentation at a rather 'swanky' central london hotel on St Martins Lane. Upon entry and receiving a glass a much needed wine it was hard to see with the room packed full of people. Looking through the crowd we eventually saw the semi-circle of models on the far side of the room circling what was probably to largest dress i have ever seen. Not only was the dress large but was intensely detailed with embroidery and sequins or crystals, this must have taken some time and effort to make but boy was it a showpiece you wouldn't forget! The clothing was a mixture of silk dresses and soft tailored shirts with ballooned cuffs and some digital prints, the shoes also caught my eye, simple but striking!

Carlotta Actis Barone
Fashion Mode - 17 . 09 . 11

Italian born designer Carlotta Actis Barone presented her S/S12 collection as part of the Fashion Mode runway show. After studying Print at Central Saint Martins and working at design houses Max Azria Manoukian and Balmain, she was bound to have the experience to back up a pretty good collection and boy she did! There was an oriental feel to the styling, especially when the first model walked out with a huge headpiece covered in flowers and tassels. The clothing, mainly dresses, were beautiful with draped fabric and brilliantly bright coloured digital prints. The shoes were also amazing although i couldn't get a clear photo of them, they were the typical high platform 'hooker heels' with oriental flowers making them more 'high fashion'.

The finale dress was this beautiful antique ivory wedding gown with a flower headpiece and silk tulle veil.

L.2.Mae

NEW DESIGNER ALERT

L.2.Mae

this morning I had the pleasure of meeting fashion designer Debbie Huntley, who has just started up her own Label this season, L.2.Mae. Having only started the collection titled 'Infused Beauty' in May I think she has done a remarkable job. Using various materials from silks to pig leathers and suede, Debbie Huntley has created 11 beautiful looks ranging form floor legnth gowns to skirts and jackets. The collection is displayed at the future gallery in London where a model swings in the centre on a swing in a romantic and elegant fashion in a red gown.
Debbie hopes to show her next collection as part of London Fashion Week which I am so excited to see!
