The Age of Men

Wednesday, January 25, 2012

So the mens winter collections have battled the catwalk for the limelight and here are some of my personal favorite contenders. Some stand out collections this season for me include; Givenchy, Mugler, Alexander McQueen and Burberry. Two garments that have made their debut this season are the mens skirt/dress and the cape. Wether it be inspired by femininity, darkness or warriors everyone from Mugler to Jean Paul Gaultier and Dior are adapting the design to the male ensemble.

Burberry

Givenchy

John Galliano

Mugler

Prada

Jean Paul Gaultier

The above images are my personal favorite outfits and collections from this season. I love how designers are combining usually feminine garments such as the skirt but blending it with a boyish look such as Givenchy

Capes this next winter are going to be a big thing in the mens fashion scene. Wether your a Jack the Ripper or a Roman warrior, a cape will be the new Jacket.

Mugler

The skirt or man-dress, not entirely accepted by society unless you're a Scot in a kilt, but definitely a garment that will be changing the face of menswear with an almost 'masculine-ist' come back.

Here are two pictures, one where im wearing a kilt at fashion week and one where im wearing a cape ...

Mr Klein

This week Calvin klein released their stunning spring summer 2012 advertising campaign. Inspired by the beautiful lines in the surroundings at Joshua Tree, California, I think these images are strong and bold reflecting the environment they are in. And some of this shoot was shot by one of my favorite photographers, Steven Klein

Featuring models; Lara Stone, Tyson Ballou, Matthew Terry, Myles Crosby, Arran Sly and Chris Garavaglia.

Heather Grant & STAG Studio

Thursday, October 20, 2011

The STAG girls have been hard a work these last few weeks in the run up the the 'White Junk' pop up shop in November. Their latest shoot, starring STAG director herself Emma Noble and model Jessica Bird, was to promote designer Heather Grant and have some fun with her cheeky cute outfits. Heather Grant will be selling at the November pop up shop so come on down to bag one of her one of a kind garments!

Elegance is the word

One of the highlights of fashion week was seeing this fantastically beautiful outfit by Sarah Burton at Alexander McQueen. I think she is really adding her own touch to the brand and bringing a new femininity adding to the elegance that was all-ready in place.

Manish Arora

Saturday, October 15, 2011

One runway show that caught my eye this season was Indian fashion designer, Manish Arora. Since starting the label in 1997 he has soared to success showing at London Fashion week and being worn by the likes of Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and Rihanna. This collection was about the 'normalities' in life. I think he has taken normal everyday, almost stereotypical objects and used them as inspiration such as the bird cage top, interior patterns and tables and chairs on the runway.

Giles Deacon
"This is so not a collection abut Black Swan"

One of the collections that really caught my eye this season was Giles Deacon. Inspired by work by photographer Cecil Beaton and Andy Warhol's 'Silver Clouds' (evident by the backdrop). The collection featured a mix or laser cut leather, lace, ostrich feathers and digitally printed silks with a swan print. This collection literally isn't based on Black Swan though, more so the juxtaposition between the grace and beauty of a swan and their savage nature.
